The Timing of Concussion Symptoms

How long does it take for concussion symptoms to show up?

Often times we hear, I hit my head but did not lose consciousness.  Or, it was more like "I rung my bell!"  Is that what a concussion means?  Do I really have a concussion?

If you or someone you know is wondering these same questions, knowing what symptoms to look for and the timing of those symptoms will help.

Concussion symptoms can be delayed up to 72 hours or more.  If you become nauseous, sense movement when you are not in motion, develop a headache that is particularly unresponsive to typical headache medicine, become light and or noise sensitive, feel off balance, sleepy but trouble sleeping, you are likely dealing with post concussive symptoms.  If these symptoms appear and progressively decline over a 24 hour period, seek immediate medical attention.  Concussions can result in permanent injury.

At Smith Family Chiropractic, it is our goal to help patients regain function after an injury and prevent permanent injury.  Call us today for the most contemporary and comprehensive approach to concussion care.
